Product Details

KuneKune means ‘fat and round’ in Māori, a rather apt description for this smaller breed pig from New Zealand. The typical KuneKune shape is a short-legged, short-snouted pig with a high fat depth giving a very rounded body. The tassels, or pire pire, hang from the lower jaw and are what makes KuneKune unique. Not all KuneKune have tassels, some piglets are born with two, one, or no tassels. KuneKune meat is known for its dark red well-marbling, being nutrient-dense with the bonus of the extra soft rich fat. The most common coat colors are black, black and white, brown, gold, tan, and cream, sometimes with randomly distributed spots and patches of color. They can also be belted or banded. The coat texture can range from short silky hair to long coarse curls. Typically KuneKune are a sociable calm pig that loves human contact. They are extremely intelligent, resourceful, love food, and a good scratch. We have several different boar and sow lines to offer unrelated pigs. Contact us if interested in any of the breeding stock that we have available.
